An Auspicious Occasion: The In-Laws Hug and Mug
You may find this hard to believe, but I actually missed the day my parents, Vernon and Marion, and Buddy's mom, Elly, met.
It was just recently--Friday, July 3.
I was here in California teaching summer school, when my future mother-in-law, Elly, and sister-in-law, Lynda, were traveling through New Jersey where both Buddy and my parents live.
I could not be there, but Buddy proudly made the introductions. I sent MarionBelle a picture of my wedding dress to share with my new mom and sister. Buddy showed our families my wedding band. I was on the speaker phone for all of the "oohs and aahhs" and for Buddy's toast to the coming together of our families.
Here, Elly, my younger sister, Paula, and Buddy's sister, Lynda, pose for a picture. Lynda e-mailed this week to tell me Paula was "the hostess with the mostest," serving iced tea and cheesecake to everyone. (Prosecco was served for the toasts.)
Elly looks on while Buddy and my father rib each other. Lynda says she love the way my dad "busts Buddy's chops!" Buddy loves it!
Ah, my Buddy-La in between our two mothers. Aren't they beautiful? I really want to tell you their age, but I haven't asked their permission. You could never guess.

I am so honored and joyed to tell you about a so very memorable event.Clearly my beautiful betrothed is the writer in the family without a doubt. That being said and true, I will do my best at doing justice to the accounts of this milestone day. It is the day that my mother met my wonderful future mother and father-in-law at their home in New Jersey. My mom and sister Lynda were visiting friends in the area, visiting the town we grew up in. What a perfect time for this uniting of family ! My YaYa was teaching summer school, and obviously we both wished very much that we could be together. The date was set and at 2:00 pm I picked my mother and sister up at the hotel they were staying at. Just prior to that, my YaYa and I were on the phone, joyed and excited. I knew Marion had a picture of the stunning wedding dress my sweetheart will adorn on the day we wed. What no one knew except YaYa and I, was that in addition I carefully brought along her gorgeous wedding band.
As we approached the exit off the highway, I called my love, letting her know we were minutes from the house. We stayed on the phone, traveling together to the quiet street which her reside on.
" There's Dads car.....oh and I hear Paige barking." " Do you see anyone yet ? " " Not yet honey, we're just getting out of the car."
Walking up the stairs to the porch,I beamed when I saw Marion and Mead at the door, their daughter with me via the phone.Entering the living room, proudly I made the long awaited introductions. Hugs later, we sat down.YaYa and I would speak again shortly. I was so happy to see Paula was there, one of my two future sister-in-laws.She was the perfect hostess, having dishes, glasses, utensils, napkins, neatly displayed. Sitting in the rocking chair, I looked and listened in all directions. Conversations of family abounded. Soon, Marion, my mother and sister were all sitting on the sofa looking at pictures. Wonderfully all three parents are of the same age, give or take a year or so, and they related immediately to being married for 60 years, each raising the same number of children.
It was time to pour the Prosecco, and make a toast. Glasses raised, I gratefully, teary eyed gave thanks for the coming together of our families. Then to my delight, John, one of YaYa's two brothers arrived. What a nice surprise to see him and be a part of this day !
Before lively conversation began again, I announced that I had something to show all.Wondering what it could be, I reached into my pocket and withdrew the small box containing YaYa's beautiful wedding band. " Is that the wedding ring Buddy ? " Smiling so broadly, I responded " yes it is, we wanted to wait for this day so you could all see it." At that, I called YaYa and said that " we were showing the ring now " I am so happy my honey could hear all the wonderful reactions. Mom Marion then sat up and walked into the dining room where an envelope rested against a candle stick holder on the table. Everyone made their way to other room except myself,as they were going to look at a picture of my bride's wedding dress and I wanted to see it for the very first time on our sacred wedding day. I relinquished the phone and listened to the family talk to YaYa and vice versa. It was music to my ears !
Returning to the living room, we further consumed the delicious assortment of cheescake thoughtfully sent by YaYa, and enjoying the Prosecco. The joining of families, sharing our miraculous story, feeling YaYa, my love there with me, with us, the entire time.....pictures being taken, sweet Paula making certain all are provided for, photos being looked at,listening to priceless stories of family and friends.
Yes My Beautiful, indeeed an auspicious occasion.....truly one from the heart!
I Love You Sweetheart xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
